GEN-TLA
My priestly friend wrote, “I’m always amused by the naming of the generations. Gen X and Gen Y should have been named Gen OMG! Maybe we should be thankful that they still know there is a God. Wouldn’t it be nice if Gen OMG decided to do some field research and stop in to visit Him in His house. Then I’d have to join GEN Yippee.”
You don’t have to tweet on twitter to know that OMG is short for Oh My God, however, TLAs are so very common now. We take for granted what NBC, CVS, and ABC are; along with WXXI, WRRM, and all the other radio stations. Most of them begin with “W” then the TLA.
It seems that each discipline has developed its own TLA, such as for the inter-net, there are .com, .net, .edu, and .org to name a few.
Every school year, my children bring home new tlas, although some times there are four letter acronymns. Surely you know by now what NCLB means. How about EST, aka, ARC, lol, and btw?
I suspect the correct label should be generation-tla. 🙂
