Cottage Blessing
Dave and Kate Chamberlin’s
Cottage/Castle Blessing
July 7th 2012
In the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost.
R/. AMEN.
Peace be unto this house and unto all who dwell here.
R/. And with thy spirit.
When Christ took flesh upon himself through his mother the Blessed Virgin Mary, He pitched His tent with us. Let us now pray that He will enter with us into the home and cottage of David and Kathryn and bless it with His presence. May He always abide here making His presence known to them in their everyday pursuit of life eternal. May they feel the nurturing of His love in the daily grind, knowing that it is the Son of God who is sharing in their joys and comforting them in their sorrows. Inspired by His teachings and example, seek to make your home before all else a dwelling place of love, diffusing far and wide the goodness of Christ Jesus.
Gospel reading from Luke 10:1-9
All R/. Glory be to you O Lord.
Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
Luk 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
Luk 10:3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
Luk 10:4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
Luk 10:5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
Luk 10:6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
Luk 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
Luk 10:8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
Luk 10:9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
All R/. Praise be to You O Christ.
Prayer of blessing
Lord, be thou close to David and Kathryn Your servants, who ask for Your blessing on their home today. Be their shelter when they are at home, their companion when they are away, and their welcome guest when they return. Almighty and eternal God, Your fatherly tenderness never ceases to provide for our needs. We ask you to bestow on Dave and Kate and on this home the riches of Your (†††) Blessing. With the gift of Your grace sanctify the Chamberlin family, so that faithful to Your commandments, they will care for each other, ennoble the world by their very lives, and at the last attain the home you have prepared for them in heaven. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
R/. AMEN.
Let this water call to mind our baptism into Christ, who has redeemed us through his death and resurrection. {First, asperges the house then Dave and Kate, then the rest of guests}.
The Son of God, Lord of Heaven and earth, made His home among us. With thankfulness and gladness let us call upon Him, saying:
R/. “Stay with us, Lord”
May the God of hope fill you with joy in believing. May the peace of Christ abound in your hearts. May the Holy Spirit enrich you with his gifts now and forever.
R/. AMEN.
