   As a sighted youngster, I learned to play the piano ala John Thompson’s Book one. Every time my parents moved to a new home, the piano teacher put me in John Thompson’s Book One. I have a piano, but as a blind person, I can only play a few songs plus scales. I can chord a little with the left hand, while I pick out the melody with the right hand; Things like “Happy Birthday” and “Mary Had A Little Lamb” for my children and grand-children to encourage them to play the piano. I might even be able to play “Heart and Soul” if someone reminds me  which notes to start on.

   It’s been said that to keep your mind sharp as you grow older, take up a hobby. I thought I’d refresh my piano skills. 

   It didn’t work. Perhaps, if I’d been able to down load the cd that accompanies the hard copy, things might have worked out better. I still play my old favorites from John Thompson Book One plus the scales.
